In the world of technology, how could the UK stay far away? Six F35- B warplanes were introduced for first overseas deployment in Cyprus. The systems testing and training will take place in a six-week program. The warplanes are from the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning series that perform stealth multirole. These are fifth-generation aircraft mostly used for combat. UK’s newest fighter arrived this Tuesday at the airbase of Britain.

The Aircraft And Training

F-35 series is designed to take care of ground-attack and superiority in the air missions. The one deployed by Britain for training is F-35B fighters also referred to as STOVL variant. Short take-off and vertical-landing have the below features:

a)    Fixed-wing aircraft

b)    Take off with short runways

c)    Can clear 50 ft obstacle within 1500 ft of take-off

d)    Capable of landing vertically

e)    Non-catapult assisted

f)    Thrust vectoring used

g)    Higher capacity of payload

h)    Supersonic vertical landing

The pilots of the British Royal Navy and Royal Air Force from the 617 Squadron are the officials designated to fly this Six F35-B. The objective of the training involves:

a)    Test the pace of the planes: The RAF Station commander needs to make sure that the plane is put through different paces that will help in ascertaining the performance of the aircraft. The test has less to do with the capabilities of combat performance and is focusing on the basic conduct of the planes.

b)    Test of logistics: The test includes checking the heavy payload capacity of the plane. The fixed-wing aircraft are generally designed for better carriage. F35- B is designed and converted to carry cargo as well. The capacity of its flight will be known when the load is placed on the plane. Testing of six days includes proper analysis of the logistics segment of the aircraft.

c)    Ground crew training: The purpose of the overseas deployment involves sharpening the skills and expertise of the ground crew according to the aircrafts requirement. The RAF Station Commander has laid special emphasis on training the crew appropriately with the newest aircraft in their fleet.

d)    Deployment aboard: The training aims to prepare for the first deployment aboard on the carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth. The newest aircraft will be deployed on the new aircraft carrier of UK. This will develop the strike capability of the aircraft, and special officers and crew are assigned to carry the aims successfully.

e)    No current plans on combat: The aircraft has great potential in combat warfare. But the UK defence is strictly not in plans on combat activities in the current training session. This is indicated by the Station commander.

The flight training will be conducted over the waters of Cyprus, and no involvement of weapons is revealed. The south of Cyprus is the location mentioned for the testing and training of F35- B. RAF Akrotiri is the training base that has been selected by the UK pilots to undertake the session.
