The UCU is an origination that deals with a manages the entire pension and salary schemes of all government and some non-government organizations across different universities. Then UCU meets up every year at their annual conference to decide whether the situation of the workers is going as per expectations or not. This triggered the thought that in the recent election UCU will protest against the ruling parties to establish their government and protect the rights of all workers across all different regions. This time the UCU conference is expected to be conducted in Harrogate.
What is the pension scheme that UCU is protesting now against?
The universities decided to curb down the pension that the workers receive. This was a highly controversial decision especially at the moment when people were demanding a hike in the salaries of all the workers stating that the present salaries could not give them a healthy life.
How UCU organized the strikes and protests
The UCU has a strength of about 60 universities which organized about 14 days of strike across various regions to organize different types of activities and ultimately lead to a protest against the university workers management to organize a strong protest against the situation. The aim of the UCC union is to secure the fact that workers are paid the correct amount for their contributions in shaping any universities.
The universities commission is trying to wreck the pension scheme
The university commission was aware of the fact that universities restrict the pension scheme of workers and this not only triggered a protest but also created several rallies move around the universities. This kind of protest was expected by the government bodies but they had to do it in order to protect their own funds. While the workers, on the other hand, claimed that the universities had a huge amount of funding and they are not investing it for the sake of the worker. Such behaviour by the university grant commission was absolute of no help since the protests just accelerated bit by bit every now and then forcing the organizers to realize the problem of a huge section of people.
Winchester already made preparations for the strike
Winchester University is one of the most famous spots for the protest movement. When there was an opinion poll for the members of UCU it showed that about 85% of the population was in favour of such strikers to increase the pay scale of the workers and not to tamper with the pension scheme.
Thus, it was a lesson for the university grants commission who got the clear message on how the UCU could actually create a difference in the way the university grants commission operates everything and that the workers also have a strong backbone to defend any kinds of decisions taken against them. No success has been observed in this regard from either end but a verdict is expected to arise soon.
